Umbasa

📍Couëron, France

Umbasa was a children’s book illustrator before embarking on her tattoo career. Frustrated with her work, she explored various techniques and fell in love with tattooing. She honed her skills independently. In 2020, she began tattooing friends and family from a caravan. In 2021, she opened her own shop and decided to make tattooing her top priority after her family. She started by tattooing many small pieces, progressing over four years to create increasingly larger and more complex works. In 2025, she moved to a private studio near Nantes to work on more substantial pieces. With her husband, she collects video games, which provide her eclectic inspiration, ranging from dark fantasy worlds like Elden Ring to magical realms like Pokemon.

In 2023, Umbasa began attending tattoo conventions (about a dozen each year). Her interactions with her colleagues spurred her to develop her own style. Since then, she has focused on two main areas. In color, she seeks vibrancy, her palette is bright and tangy. In black work, she explores texture and has developed a true love for WIP shading. In 2024, she won her first award and gained recognition for her watercolors, her approach to kawaii, and her Japanese pop culture influences. She has won over 20 awards in two years and has no intention of stopping. She constantly strives to improve her technique and push her own boundaries.
