Olivia Verove – Cocalye Tattoo

Fine Line Elegance & Ornamental Precision

Interview

How did you first get into tattooing, and what led you to start tattooing professionally in 2023?

I began my tattoo apprenticeship in 2022, a foundational period during which I confirmed that tattooing was a true calling for me. In 2023, I decided to start working independently and tattoo professionally, with the desire to develop an artistic universe that fully reflects who I am.

How would you describe your artistic identity today, especially within fine line, floral, and minimalist tattooing?

My universe is centered around finesse, delicacy, and elegance. I enjoy creating subtle tattoos that gently adorn my clients’ skin. To me, a tattoo is above all a true piece of jewelry for the body. I love working exclusively with a 3RL needle, as I find it extremely versatile and perfectly suited to my style.

What attracts you to delicate compositions and soft colour palettes in your work?

I find these compositions both very feminine and incredibly powerful through their softness. They create a poetic and sensitive visual language that, in my opinion, enhances my clients’ natural beauty and elevates it without ever overpowering it. I enjoy translating the soft and delicate world of watercolor into my tattoo work.

Can you describe your creative process when designing a custom tattoo, from the initial idea to the final piece?

I always start from my clients’ ideas and intentions. Through our discussions, I create an initial sketch, which then evolves into the final design. I have a rather personal way of working: I often draw while watching a movie or a series. I’ve always been more efficient with background noise — it’s my little creative ritual.

How do you approach placement and flow to ensure your tattoos complement the body naturally?

I systematically ask for photos of the areas to be tattooed. This allows me to perfectly adapt the design to the body’s shapes, respect its natural lines, and enhance each morphology in a harmonious way.

What technical aspects are most important to you when working with fine line and ornamental designs?

Patience and precision are essential. You should never rush the process — every line matters. I am very perfectionistic and enjoy taking the necessary time to achieve the cleanest and most accurate result possible.

How do you build trust and communication with clients, especially those getting subtle or meaningful tattoos?

I always invite my clients to share, if they wish, the story or emotion behind their project. Exchange and dialogue are fundamental. Listening closely allows me to create a design that truly reflects what they feel and what they want to carry on their skin.

What inspires you outside of tattooing, and how does that influence your designs?

Nature is an immense source of inspiration for me. I constantly draw from it in my work. We are surrounded by incredibly beautiful forms, textures, and symbols, and I find it fascinating to translate them onto the skin. I have been working with watercolor since childhood, and this sensibility naturally influences my color tattoos, where the softness of watercolor can be felt.

How do you see the evolution of fine line and minimalist tattooing in today’s tattoo scene?

I’m very happy to see fine line tattooing gaining more and more recognition, especially at conventions where specific fine line categories are now appearing in competitions. It is a true acknowledgment of this style as a discipline in its own right.

What artistic goals or projects would you like to develop as you continue to grow in your tattoo career?

I want to continue learning, evolving, and refining my personal style. My goal is to create tattoos that are increasingly sensitive, precise, and meaningful — true pieces of poetry engraved on the skin.
